Daily coronavirus cases and deaths as well as hospitalizations have seen significant declines in California, according to a data analysis by the Southern California News Group on Saturday.
California’s seven-day average of 4,730 new cases from the coronavirus is down 52% from its high of 9,935, July 23, according to data collected from public health websites. The seven-day average of 118 new deaths is also down 21% from its high of 150, Aug. 16.
A comparison of 14-day totals of new cases per 100,000 between Aug. 10-23 and Aug. 23-Sept. 5 also showed that 50 of California’s 58 counties had a decline in new cases. Overall, the state had a 34% decline from 244 new cases per 100,000 from Aug. 10-23, 244, to 160 new cases from Aug. 23-Sept. 5.
California reported 3,839 new cases as of Sept. 5, bringing the total of those infected with the coronavirus to 731,456. There were 94 new deaths reported Saturday, or 13,678 total deaths.
Hospitalizations across the state are down 52% from their July 21 high of 8,820. According to health agencies, there were 4,242 people in the hospital for COVID-related reasons on Saturday, 159 fewer than reported the previous day.
There were about 3,129 newly confirmed cases of the coronavirus in California as of Saturday, according to Southern California News Group research of all county health dashboards in the state. There were 73 new deaths reported, bringing the total number of deaths related to the virus to 13,657.
