KOST-FM 103.5 announces start date to play non-stop Christmas music

Sleighbells ring, are you listening? KOST-FM/103.5 expects you to be at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 when the station makes its annual switchover to nonstop Christmas music.

OK, you might not be feeling your holly-est or jolliest right now. But at KOST-FM, which started its annual all-Christmas tradition as a way to bring good cheer in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001, there’s no balm for hearts and minds like the sounds of Christmas around the clock.

Morning host Ellen K made the announcement that Christmas music was almost here on Friday, when, to be honest, we were still listening to “Every Day Is Halloween” by Ministry and “Happy,” that creepy new song by Danny Elfman of Oingo Boingo.

It’s on her show at 8 a.m. Thursday that ye olde holiday switch will be thrown, as the KOST Host of Christmas Music Past — former afternoon DJ Mark Wallengren — was laid off earlier this year.

Reaction to the news on social media accounts for KOST-FM and Ellen K was mostly positive, though there are always a few cranky elves who don’t want to hear holiday tunes ’til after Thanksgiving.

“My family hates this time of year,” wrote Sara Helmuth Sturhann on Facebook. “Once the holiday music starts, 103.5 is the only station on in my car until it stops.”

Alyssa Aguilar assured Sturhann she is not alone: “Lol same!! I have a small radio in my kitchen, it stays on until they stop the music.”
